Hunting Permits and Fees

Hunting permits are required from the Tiwi Land Council.  Applications are submitted to the the Traditional Land Owners for approval. Hunting permits are available only for residents of the Tiwi Islands. Non-residents wishing to obtain a hunting permit should apply in writing direct to the Tiwi Land Council. Hunting permits are to be limited to 3 only of the 8 homeland areas shown in the attached map and permit holders can hunt only in the area(s) nominated on their permit.
 
The 8 homeland areas are (see map):
  1. Jikilaruwu
  2. Wurankuwu
  3. Malawu
  4. Mantiyupwi
  5. Munupi
  6. Yimpinari
  7. Marrikawuyanga
  8. Wulirankuwu
The fee structure for the year beginning 1 August 2012 for a hunting permit is:
 
               Annual Permit: $100                        14 Day Permit: $55
 
Permits will not be issued to anyone under the age of 18 years.
 
All annual permits expire on 31 July each year, although new permits approved in June or July will expire on 31 July of the following year.
 
Please note that all pricing is in Australian Dollars and includes GST.

All revenue from recreational hunting permits is used to protect and conserve our environment and help ensure the future of recreational hunting throughout the Tiwi Islands.
